As I reflect on my career, I realize that I have been working with individuals with autism for over a decade now. I've had the unique and humbling experience of working with children who were being diagnosed for the very first time, adolescents making their way through middle and high school, and young adults transitioning to college or work life. While we, as educators and mental health professionals, have learned so much over the years - about how to identify autism and how to help - we still have such a long way to go. This is why I have decided to advocate for individuals with autism and do what I can to raise awareness.
This is my second year participating in the Autism Speaks Houston Walk. Last year, Jason and I were volunteers. This year, I'm walking to raise funds for the mission of Autism Speaks – to fuel innovative research and make connections to critical lifelong supports and services for the autism community. I invite you to join in and make an impact for people living with autism.
